Special Guests

Lucille O’Neal, Guest Speaker

lucilleShe may be the mother of one of the greatest athletes of all time, but Lucille O’Neal is much more than “Shaquille O’Neal’s mom.” Acquainted early in life with turmoil, O’Neal’s circumstances shaped her perspective, strengthening her resolve to overcome the challenges she would later encounter. She has endured poverty, rejection, abuse, addiction, and the illness of a child, yet today her faith and compassion for others is stronger than ever.

Lucille O’Neal shares her life story candidly – and often humorously – in her book Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go as well as in her keynotes. Touching on her years of spiritual unrest and mental welfare, she shares her struggles and disappointments against the backdrop of her sweetest memories and proudest accomplishments. After 56 years, O’Neal has gained the wisdom to recognize her wrongs and guide other women down a different path. Her story is proof that it’s never too late for a new beginning.

From Street Smart to Book Smart
os-angel-sancheza-jpg-20140412 To showcase The Salvation Army beyond the Red Kettles and the inspirational stories of the lives of people that have been changed by our services, we present our 2014 Annual Celebration. We invite you to come meet Angel Sanchez, one of the individuals helped by our organization! By 16, Sanchez had been arrested four times for a laundry list of felonies, from aggravated assault to racketeering to attempted murder — all involving his association with drug dealers and violence against gang members. After relocating from Miami to Orlando, he started living at The Salvation Army’s Men’s Shelter, enrolling in a job program and is now an honor student at Valencia College! Want to learn more about Angel? Click on the link and read the article by Kate Santich in the Orlando Sentinel: The Angel Sanchez Story! He’ll be there!
